SARAH AUSTIN was the daughter of A. Everett “Chick” Austin, the influential director of the Wadsworth Atheneum and one of the twentieth century’s most progressive museum administrators. Sarah cleverly staged her captivating collage constructions reflecting on the modern art movement she grew up immersed in and the art and artists throughout art history that she loved best. Her enchanting art boxes have rarely been seen as there were only a handful of public exhibitions during her own lifetime and few since her untimely death in 1994. Now 25 years after her death we memorialize the astounding creative legacy she left us with this exceptional opportunity to view her remarkable art boxes.
