“PARTY” IN THE 21ST CENTURY USA/CANADA TOUR 2018

 Limited edition of paintings of nearly extinct Slovak “parta”

“parta” (sg) / “party” (pl): is a type of a fancy headband, the symbol of adult unmarried girls. It was worn mainly by brides at their wedding ceremonies in the past and it was a part of a festive and ceremonial hair styling. Being the most important and beautiful component of the wedding costume, it has always been richly decorated and it was unique in every region of Slovakia.

From May 22 – 27, 2018 at Parasol Projects – Rivington Street Gallery you are invited to visit the exhibition Party in the 21st Century collection presented in cooperation with the Consulate General of Slovak Republic in New York. The Party in the 21st Century Tour USA/Canada 2018 is supported using public funding by Slovak Arts Council.

The three-year project of young and talented Slovak duo photographers, Zuzana Sénášiová and Ľubomír Sabo, producing under LSZ Photography brand, art painter Sarah I. Avni and ethnologist Katarína Chabrečeková, returns back to North America after a successful tour at home and abroad. This collection contains stunning paintings in which the audience can see almost extinct “party” and wreaths from all over Slovakia presented in modern art design is the combination of photography, face painting and art painting. The paintings will be exhibited in Ottawa, Washington, and New York. Exhibitions will include talks with the experts and authors, music performances by Veronika Strapkova and Matus Ferko, as well as presentations of traditional “party” and clothing from Slovakia.

Party in the 21st Century project represents Slovak culture, traditions and art under the official brand of Slovakia – GOOD IDEA SLOVAKIA.
