Joaquin Salim: Fake Smile

Parasol Projects @ 208 Bowery

FAKE SMILE @ 208 Bowery
November 16 – 18th, 2018 | 9 am – 9 pm
Opening Reception: November 15th, 2018 | 6 – 10 pm

FAKE SMILE, is Joaquin Salim’s — an acclaimed creative and mixed media artist — first solo show in New York City. It will take place at the unique location 208 Bowery from November 15th until November 18th.

By decomposing and appropriating pharmaceutical labels, newspapers, advertising cutouts, mail packaging, old photographs and many other objects from our everyday life, ‘Fake Smile’ presents a large body of work where the artist dives into controversial and sensitive topics of our society with a wink. Making this show a reality check — unless you choose to only see the surface of it all.

Magnification is key in Joaquin’s work, his obsession with textures that can’t be seen and detailed at normal sight gives Fake Smiles another layer of intimacy that allows the viewer to see past what is in front of them.

Joaquin Salim is a Venezuelan born and New York-based Mixed Media Appropriation Artist, whose work has been acclaimed and acquired by curators around the world. He has exhibited multiple times in New York, Los Angeles and most recently in Budapest and Madrid.

He is also an award winner Creative Director currently working for a large global advertising agency in New York City. During his years in the advertising industry, he has partnered with creative geniuses like Darren Aronofsky and Mike Mills to create unique projects— for The New York Times, LVMH and many more — that have reached the top of the field in festivals like the world famous Cannes Lions, The One Show, D&AD and many more. In 2017, Joaquin was named one of the best creatives in the world under 30 years of age by the Young Guns, awarded for his multidisciplinary creative vision.
