Fitchwork: The Superpattern Pop-Up

Parasol Projects @ 2 Rivington Street

Fitchwork, a collaborative design studio created by Travis Fitch, will launch its first collection of objects on with the Superpattern Pop-Up.The interactive showroom will be open to the public daily from 10am to 8pm, September 22 to September 30 at 2 Rivington Street, New York, NY 10002.

The range consists of eight fundamental objects—a ring, a cuff, a bracelet, a necklace, a table lamp, a pendant light, a ceramic vessel, and an ottoman—which can be rendered as any one of 23 totally new patterns and manufactured on-demand. The collection was created through a novel combination of old and new technology. Each pattern is rooted in some combination of geometry, ancient architectural and textile patterns—digitally woven, rendered using CAD software, and mapped to the unique bends and curves of each object.

The pieces themselves are either 3D printed directly from laser-sintered nylon, cast in silver, gold, or brass via a lost wax process, or slip-cast with porcelain in 3D-printed mold. These processes allow for the bending of traditional rules of materiality, freeing detailed motifs to bend and flow around organic, curvilinear shapes in unprecedented ways. The result is an array of ornamental, highly functional designs meant to be worn and lived with daily.

Visitors to the Superpattern Pop-Up will be able to try on and play with examples from the line, which are available for pre-orders shipping in November. The shop will also host a few surprise events during the run, which will be announced via newsletter and Instagram.
