Pop-Up Stories: “Loup” Makes Pants For One? Pants For All!

Loup Ladies Bottom Club Pops up with Parasol Projects.

Only two years after graduating from Parsons School of Design in New York City, Danielle Ribner founded the label Loup. Her main inspiration being the effortless French style icons of the 60’s such as Jane Birkin and Bridgette Bardot, this #louspiration translates in every design. The name of the brand extends from her own nickname: “Lou” with a French twist of a silent “p”, which translates into the word “wolf” in English. “She has a big personality in a simple package,” says Ribner when defining women who wear her clothing. “I want to make cool clothes for curvier women.” Unlike mainstream fashion brands who tend to exclusively design for lean models who most women find difficulty identifying with, Loup’s pieces avoid marketing to only one particular size or physique of a woman with its designs.

Ribner admires New York designers Rachel Comey as well Paris based Stella McCartney and Phoebe Philo former designer of Céline. These inspirations can feel familiar when compared to the silhouette and style of the Loup’s pieces.

Nowadays, there has been an undeniably strong current in the culture to empower women to accept themselves rather than submitting to any preconceived narrative. “Women aren’t scared to love their body anymore,” says Ribner, who intends to make clothing for every woman: “it’s a market that barely exists.”

Loup’s best sellers include pants, jumpsuits, and marinières that are both understated and straightforward. As expected from a brand who swears by French classic style, navy blue, washed pink, white and horizontal stripes are on the menu. All the pieces are made in New York with fabrication originating from the United States.

No stranger to the scene, this is not Ribner’s first pop-up store in the Nolita neighborhood as she loves the area. “It’s so incredible to meet our customers directly” she explains, as half of her business is done online. “The best thing is when a woman who was scared to try the pants, puts a pair on and loves how she looks!”.
